Choose the Best Business: 5 Ways to Make the Right Decision

You've made a decision to start your own business. Here comes the difficult part - how do you decide which business is best for you? How do you narrow down your options for the highest profitability?

The following are 5 different ways to help you choose the best option.

1. What you know to do

We all have knowledge, experiences and skills others don't. You might not qualify as an "industry expert" (yet), but you sure know a lot more in certain areas than others around you. With practice and dedication your expertise will continue evolving.

Write down everything you've learned to do, degrees and experiences you have, awards you have received, anything and everything that you KNOW to do. (This will also be handy when you're ready to promote your business so don't lose the list.)

2. What you are passionate about

Make a list of all the things that you enjoy doing. Whether it is writing, design, or tinkering with physical objects. Any passion can turn into a wonderful business idea... or not.

3. What you will do

The best business is something you want to do. Something nobody has to force you to do. This way you can be sure that you will find time to actually do it. If you could do anything, what would you be doing? What do you enjoy doing in your work and free time?

4. Opportunities already present

Many times ideas are right in front of our noses. A friend asks you to proofread text or give her fashion advice. If people around you are already asking you to help them in a specific area, the chances are that there is a need, plus you have a knack for it.

5. Businesses with potential

The final test for your business idea is profitability. No matter how passionate you are about the idea, always run it through a "potential" test - If nobody is willing to pay for your product or service, you won't get far. Listen carefully to what your market is saying - you might have the wrong product, bad marketing, bad pricing or just a plain bad business idea.

If your idea passed these 5 tests, congratulations are in order. You found a business you are knowledgeable about, you enjoy doing, you will not get tired of easily, that fills the gap in the market and most importantly, it makes you money.
