On a regular basis you can catch me sitting in my office with no agenda, just one purpose… to review my actions and see what I can improve and enhance to create better results. There is absolutely no agenda for days like this- no client calls, no content creation, I lock myself in (or out in the backyard) to think things through. If you’ve never had such a day for your business (or job), I highly recommend it (especially if you are an initiative Quick Start – for those of you who took Kolbe A assessment this makes sense). This is where magic happens, ideas are born and if you’re honest and willing to change, transformation takes place.
In fact, you may have really good intentions, but if your actions don’t support those, you are focusing on things that are taking you in a different direction, and you are not going to live a life you want.
Today I will share with you the exact steps to take to review and ensure that you are heading in the right direction.
Step 1: Gather and review all your mission & vision statements
By all I mean your personal one, your career one, your family one. It’s important that you see your life as a whole, not as separate sections. Your career or business impacts your personal and family life and vice versa. If you’re missing any of the above statements, it might be a good time to create them. I used to have a separate file folder with stuff like my mission, vision and goals. I now keep everything in Evernote. Do it the way that works for you, but make sure you get it done.
Step 2: Review your goals and action plans
Your goals need to be aligned with your mission & vision. Your action plan needs to guide you toward the goals you set for yourself, your family, your relationships, or your business/career. Are you still passionate about your goals? Are they aligned with your vision & mission? What is missing or what needs to be removed?
Step 3: Review your activity & results
This is a BIG task and requires a lot of courage. You need to be super honest with yourself and stand against any pride, false humbleness, pretense or lies. How are you spending your time? What results have you produced? Are your actions moving you in the right direction? You can do these reviews on a daily, weekly, monthly, even annual basis. I tend to do all of the above. Why? It’s simple… because there are many obstacles, challenges and bright shiny objects that can take you off the path. The sooner you recognize them, the easier it is to get back on track. If you wait and wonder for a couple of months, or even worse… years, you might enjoy the scenery, but the chances that you’ll end up at your desired destination will be minimal.
Step 4: Change what’s necessary

Doing more of what doesn’t work will NOT bring you better results. It will just leave you more exhausted and frustrated. If you focus on the wrong activities, you will get the wrong results. Once again you must be honest with yourself and pin point the things that aren’t working. No matter how much you resist the change, you need to make some changes to change your results. Get all the support you need to make this step happen, but get it done.
Step 5: Take action!
This is a MUST after all the work you’ve done. If you don’t implement the changes necessary, the whole system you just followed was a waste of time. You need to take action to produce results.

Don’t overwhelm yourself trying to do it all. Take it one step at a time, one thing at a time.
Today’s challenge: I challenge you today to schedule a check up day in your calendar within the upcoming 2 weeks. Your goal is to learn how to focus better by purposefully choosing where you invest your time, resources and energy. And if you’re brave enough, let me know what you found out. You can leave a comment below or post it on my Facebook page.
