There are a couple of reasons why people don’t ask for help. Let me go through the top three…
- They don’t want to be a burden. The fact is, none of us knows it all or can do it all. We all need help. If you become a burden to somebody, it has nothing to do with you. It actually has to do with that person’s lack of boundaries.
- They are afraid the person will say “No”. The fact is, nothing changes if another person says NO. Your situation will still be the same. But if the person says YES, or at least starts thinking about it, your situation may improve. It’s worth the try… you won’t know unless you try.
- They don’t want to sound stupid. The fact is, asking for help is never stupid. If you don’t understand something, getting help, helps you understand. If you can’t do it on your own, it helps you get it done. And if you don’t have time, it may get done in spite your business. Wise people find others with better expertise and ask them for help. In fact, pretending that you know and can do it all makes you sound stupid.
