I remember the day when I first took the Kolbe ATM Index. I was excited because my coach told me that the insights would be invaluable and that I’d never be the same person again. So I did it. As excited as I was, I started to read through my results and …darn! I could see who I was, but all I could focus on was that I wanted to be THAT also… How could I do it all, and be it all? How could I improve myself?
Now fast forward a couple of years, and I am coaching clients who are in the same place that I was. They don’t understand their Kolbe ATM results, they try to improve themselves in the areas where they are weak and they feel frustrated about being themselves.
If you ever wondered how to better understand the Kolbe ATM Index, here are a couple of core principles you need to know about in order to get the most out of your result.
1. Kolbe ATM is NOT a personality test!
Personality tests cover your affective area – your motivation, your beliefs and desires, what your strengths and weaknesses are and where you can improve. But Kolbe doesn’t measure personality. Kolbe measures your conative strengths – how you take action. It shows you who you are, what your natural strengths are and what your talents and instincts are. It shows how you will perform your best and how you will create your best results. Your results don’t change with time and therefore Kolbe Assessments are proven to work as predictors of individual and team performance.
2. Kolbe ATM measures your strengths
If something is weak, it means that you can strengthen it. However, it doesn’t work that way with your instincts, they cannot be changed. Kolbe measures your instincts, your natural drive, your natural flow of energy, and your strengths. The Kolbe ATM Index reveals what you’re good at, where you should focus your energy, and how it shows in your performance.
Understanding your Kolbe A result will help you significantly improve your results as it will show you exactly where you should and shouldn’t focus your efforts.
3. Kolbe ATM makes us all equal
One of my favorite things about Kolbe is that it makes us all equal. We all have ONE strength in each of the four action modes. We all have FOUR strengths, nobody has more than anyone else. You can’t resist and initiate change at the same time. You can’t simplify and specify at the same time. You will naturally go toward one and avoid the other. Kolbe gives us freedom to act and create the results in our own unique way.
Each of us is unique and can contribute to a team success or its failure. Click To TweetIf you have never taken the Kolbe A Assessment, click here to learn more about it and get your results today.
